It's a typical geocache hide, so the cache should be an easy find.
"Til Telemarken"

This old waymark witnesses that this road has been used to get people and goods over the mountains for a long time. The spelling of the county is now Telemark, without the "en" at the end.

E134 is the main road between Eastern and Western Norway. The oldest written sources tell about people travelling here since 1155, when the lenderman Gregorius Dagsson went west over the mountains to meet Erling Skakke in Etne.

In 1846 the government decided to build a road over the mountain pass to shorten the way between Oslo and Bergen. With an original width of 2.5 metres it was built as a carriageway between Vågsli, Telemark and Røldal, Hordaland during the years 1857-1889. Earlier there had only been a walking and horse track-road. In the late 1880 they had to move some parts of the road, first once then twice, due to avalanches.
Even though the road was built for horse and carriage, it also could take cars. In 1906 the first automobile drove over the Haukeli Mountains. In 1913 a bus route started.

In 1968 a new road was opened, this time an all year route. In a few years time they will start building a totally new road across the mountain of Haukeli.

The traffic is heavy, and even though the speed limit through the Røldal valley is 50 km/h, the big trucks can be massive and scaring. Take care!
